For immediate release $1.39 Million Allocated for Affordable Housing in York West YORK WEST – York West will receive $1.39 million for a 48-unit housing project at 2350 Finch Avenue West sponsored by Ghana Amansie Canadian Non-Profit Homes. Low-income families and single persons will occupy the housing project. This funding is part of a $38 million commitment to help fund 10 housing projects within the City of Toronto. The combined projects will create a total of 865 units in Toronto for low-income families, single persons and seniors under the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program. “One of the McGuinty government’s fundamental goals is to help provide affordable housing for Ontarian who need it,” said MPP, Mario Sergio. “This allocation represents a significant step in addressing the need for more affordable housing in York West.” The Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program comprises of a commitment of $301 million from each of the two senior levels of government. It total, the federal, provincial and municipal governments will invest at least $734 million in the program, which will provide affordable housing for 20,000 Ontario households by 2010. “I’m proud that our government has made affordable housing a priority,” said Mario Sergio, MPP. “This allocation to our community of York West will provide safe, affordable housing to the most vulnerable among us, and helps to confirm the values of compassion and caring that make our province such a special place.” -30- Contact; |
