Question for Min. James Bradley

‘Highways and Bocce Courts’

Mr. Speaker, My Question is for the Minister of Tourism and Recreation.

Minister, On June 2 2004, Stephen Harper, during a radio interview with Fan 590 regarding infrastructure funding, is quoted as saying, “That’s where you end up with bocce courts instead of highways!”

At the same time, Minister, Mr Harper in regards to public spending, said that, “…ultimately you can hold the David Millers and municipalities accountable for the decisions they are making.”

Bocce courts, Minister, I believe is similar to ‘lawn bowling’ and serves its purpose both as a recreational and as a therapeutic pastime.

Many of our constituents would say that is money well spent!

How do you see, Minister, the need and function of bocce courts in your ministry?

Supplementary

Minister, I truly doubt that Mr. Harper knows the difference between ‘highways and bocce courts’– between a form of transportation and a form of recreation, yet Mr. Harper says that he wants municipalities to make local decisions and not Ottawa.

Minister, bocce and lawn bowling are played by thousands of citizens young and old.

On behalf of thousands of our taxpayers what is your message to Mr. Harper and to our many seniors that play bocce as a form of active recreation?
