MCGUINTY GOVERNMENT INVESTING IN LOCAL TOURISM
Cultural Festivals And Events Help Build A Strong And Prosperous Economy

YORK WEST - Mario Sergio, M.P.P. for York West today announced funding in the amount of $ 4,000 to help market the Métis Arts Festival taking place at the Black Creek Pioneer Village in Downsview.

"The Ontario government is a proud supporter of festivals, events and attractions that boost tourism in all four seasons," said M.P.P. Sergio. "Supporting such events gives a substantial economic boost to our area, and a memorable experience for our visitors."

The Tourism Event Marketing Partnership Program (TEMPP) funding will be used to cover marketing costs associated with the Métis Arts Festival. The event will take place on July 22, 23, and 24 at Black Creek Village. The Festival, which attracted 3,200 visitors last year and expects to attract 5,000 this year, aims to increase the awareness of Métis history and culture by connecting with the Aboriginal and Francophone communities as well as the general public. The 3-day event will showcase 70 Métis artists and performers from across Canada with a specific focus on Ontario Métis culture involving visual artists, musicians and the media arts.

"The Métis Arts Festival is important for the York West community, said MPP Sergio. "I want to congratulate everyone who helped organize this event and the volunteers who have worked to make it such a great success."

"A healthy tourism industry supports Ontario's high quality of life," said Jim Bradley, Minister of Tourism and Recreation. "Festivals and events increase tourism, bringing new visitors to communities across Ontario, contributing to a strong and prosperous economy."

The Métis Arts Festival is among a growing number of Ontario events and festivals sponsored under the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation's Tourism Event Marketing Partnership Program. By assisting local organizations to showcase their events to the people of Ontario and our neighbours, TEMPP encourages increased tourism and strengthens Ontario's tourism industry.
