Local M.P.P. Mario Sergio Highlights Bursaries Available to Graduating Tenants
"I truly believe in helping our young people achieve their goals and dreams," said local Liberal M.P.P. Mario Sergio. During 2004, the Ontario Housing Corporation (OHC) and the Social Housing Branch of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs& Housing are making available a number of bursaries for students who are tenants in rent-geared-to -income housing throughout the province of Ontario. The Dr. Albert Rose Bursary Program, named in honor of the late Dr. Albert Rose who dedicated his life's work to education and social housing, includes tenants living in non-profit housing, co-operatives, and social housing units where their rent is geared-to-income.
Bursaries will be available to tenants graduating from high school in 2003 who intend to enroll in a full-time post-secondary education program (1st or 2nd year undergraduate only). The maximum award available is $3,000, paid in two installments of $1,500 each.
Awards are also available for tenants planning to enroll in short-term academic, trade, or skills based training. The maximum for this award is $1,000, also paid in installments. These awards may be of interest to those schools engaged in adult upgrading.
Either bursary is available to mature students. The amount of each individual bursary award is contingent upon the total number of qualified applicants.
An application form and instructions for the 2003 Bursary Program are available on the Internet at www.mah.gov.on.ca
"The Dr. Albert Rose Bursary Program gives a helping hand at a time when it is most needed," stated Sergio.
