Seniors' Bill of Rights
Ontario Legislature passed the Senior's Bill of Rights, a resolution initiated by Mario Sergio, M.P.P. for York West The province of Ontario shall ensure that the following rights of seniors are fully protected and promoted:
- The right to be free from ageism, stereotyping and other discrimination and the right to be ensured that discrimination on these bases is not tolerated.
- The right to have their right to work protected, and the right to securing acceptable retirement.
- The right of access to protective social services for the vulnerable and the right to a dignified system for end-of-life care for those in need.
- The right to play an active role in the planning and management of their lives.
- The right to remain in their communities and in their homes, through the support of community-based, long-term care facilities.
- The right to having healthy lifestyles promoted by implementing effective, culturally appropriate programs designed to promote health, wellness and the opportunity for intellectual growth.
- The right to be free from abuse of all kinds, financial, physical and emotional, and to be free from neglect and exploitation within their local community or in health care settings.
- The right to a long-term care system that is results-based, trusted and easy to access for information and for assistance for all communities within the province.
